Different Types of Rapists Based on Nicholas Groths Typology

In 1979 Nicholas Groth created a typology based around the different types of rape that occur, categorizing it into groups. Most rape is planned by a single person while others are prompted spontaneously. Groth's typology includes types of rape and why people do it. According to law the types of rape get categorized as; gang rape(If more than one person is situated in the crime), acquaintance rape(when the victim and criminal are acquainted with each other during forced sex), date rape(forced sex during a relationship), and marital rape(rape between a married couple).

According to Nicholas Groth's work he portrays the reasoning behind criminals committing these horrid crimes as being one of three categorized cases.

1 - Anger Rape

The first theory in Groth's typology is called anger rape. This is when someone's actions are motivated by anger towards the victim. The offender gets provoked by something and in result as an unstable person(because this type of criminal is unstable if they can't hold themselves from such actions in my opinion) they lash out on someone, often an opposed arguer. In their head and reasoning they sexually assault an individual as they are furiously mad at them.

2 - Power Rape

The second ideation behind sexually assaulting another Groth titled appropriately as power rape. From the perspective of the offender, Groth's reasoning behind the actions are credited to a need for power, either within a relationship or against someone they want to dominate for whatever reason. This could look like a trigger from an argument or a feeling of the offender being belittled and needing to get back at them, taking a new position within the relation.

3 - Sadistic Rape

The reasoning towards committing sexual assault against someone when it comes to sadistic rape is purely out of enjoyment. They're just doing it for pleasure and satisfaction for themselves. There doesn't even have to be a main trigger or reason behind the action other than just wanting to. When there is a trigger it's the offender is motivated by just genuinely enjoying the infliction of pain and causing displeasure against their victims. They often beat, choke, or cut their victims during the crime.
